I sketched out a brief level design that I am in the process of building for the game concept Spider Wars.
The sketch below shows dotted lines throughout the tree; these separate the tree out into screen-sized sections. The level is scrolling and the player will move smoothly through these as they navigate Steve the Spider to the top of the tree.
Each enemy has its own functions:

Each enemy has its own functions:
- Bird - Flies overhead and can only hurt Steve when it barrels down and tries to pluck him off the tree.
- Wasp - Flies in a lazy circular pattern; if it collides with Steve then it reverses its path and damages Steve. It also shoots stingers at Steve, which will cause damage.
- Beetle - Shuffles along from side to side. If Steve collides with it then he will be hurt; if Steve shoot it with his web, he will trap it and can eat it to increase health.
- Hole - The holes open up when Steve gets close if Steve falls in, he will end up all the way down at the bottom of the level again. Where holes are arranged closely together, care has to be taken to ensure that there is still room for Steve to pass them.
Stay tuned for the playable level; it's coming soon!
